Vision: Celebrating Elk Grove's Proud Heritage and Bright Future.  

Mission:   To create a Time Capsule that captures a snapshot in time of our community in its first 10 years of Cityhood to be shared with future generations.

Background:   Over the past several months, a cross section of Elk Grove civic leaders, board members and residents have gathered together ad-hoc and formed a committee to establish an Elk Grove Community Time Capsule with the desire being to prepare a community time capsule representing the last 10 years of City hood in honor of the City's 10 th birthday.

We joined forces with the Elk Grove Historical Society and over the last few months we have gathered best practices from other time capsule committees, received guidance from the International Time Capsule Society at the University of Atlanta Georgia and met monthly to develop a work plan and project list to accomplish our goals.

We have decided on the following: 

1. Time line captured in the time capsule 7/1/2000 through 7/1/2010 – the City's first 10 years
2. Presentation ceremony will be held at the Elk Grove Red, White and Blue Celebration   7/4/2010
3. Retrieval date:   7/1/2035
4. Actual container size 15x14x24
5. Ed Keema, a long time Elk Grove citizen, has offered to build a model type Stage Coach to enclose the capsule
6. Location – Temporary location at City Hall in the Foyer  
7. Permanent home at the Civic Center
8. Sponsorship opportunities have been developed
9. Advertising ideas:
10. Asking the Community what they would like to see in a Time Capsule
11. Website advertising and communication
12. News articles, community events, etc.
13. Community Outreach programs are being planned
14. We have developed  the parameters for accepted items to be included in the time capsule
15. We have developed a wish list of items to include in the time capsule
16. We have built community partnerships to work together to promote the program and engage the community at large.
